At the URL dr we embrace the remote work model because it supports the creative mind and lifestyle. Can you tell us where you’re currently working from and what you love about it?
I’m working from my home in Madoc, Ontario, Canada! Madoc is a small town somewhere between Toronto and Ottawa, with really cute little shops and some fabulous hiking trails.
Favorite place to eat out?
Currently my favorite spot is a bakery in Madoc called The Hidden Goldmine that does amazing soups and sandwiches. I also stop in for a coffee whenever I can!
Coolest fact about where you live?
During the 19th century, Madoc was a halfway stop over for people traveling between Toronto and Ottawa. It was also a big mining town back in the day, so there are lots of beautiful century homes in town.
What brought you the URL dr?
I was looking for a fully remote workplace where I could manage more creative projects!
Can you tell us a little bit about your professional background and career goals?
I started my project management career working in the wonderful world of content marketing, before transitioning into a M&A deal sourcing company. Prior to my marketing days, I’d worked as an English teacher, translator and bar tender! As for my career goals, I really enjoy the challenges of project management, and can see myself continuing to grow within this area.
As Project Manager what is your favorite part of the job?
The best part of being a project manager is finding new ways to make life easier for your team. Whether it’s documenting and formalizing processes, or finding ways to optimize workflows, there’s always room for growth and improvement. It definitely keeps things interesting!
What is the most challenging part of your job?
Capacity planning is always a challenging part of project management. It can be easy to know what the next week or two will look like for your team, but it can be hard to see beyond that. But with the amazing team I get to work with at The URL dr, I get loads of support on finding solutions to challenges like this one!
Do have any passion projects you’re working on? Can you tell us a little about that?
I’m getting really into restoring and refinishing old furniture! Currently I’m working on a wooden dresser from the 1950s. It’s a lot of work, but the pieces I’ve done so far have turned out great!
Do you have any furry co-workers who like to sit on your laptop or snooze under your desk? Can you tell us about their personality and how they support your career goals?
I have 3 dogs (Cava, Grey and Nayla) and 1 cat (Tigre). They can often be seen popping up on Zoom calls to say hello, or walking around in the background looking for somewhere cozy to curl up! I love taking little breaks throughout the day to get some snuggles in or take them outside for a quick play session. They’re the best!!
What kind of music do you jam out to while you’re working or do you need complete silence?
I can’t listen to music if I’m doing any writing tasks, but otherwise I love to jam out! For tasks that require some concentration, I listen to a lot of chill indie pop from Spain. For tasks that are more repetitive or if I need an energy boost, I’ll turn on some Afro pop or disco!
What’s the last concert you’ve attended? And can you tell me a little bit about it?
I saw Estopa, one of my favorite Spanish bands, perform at the Pirineos Sur music festival in Spain! The venue was had a breathtaking view of the Pyrenees mountains, and it was a really great concert. My friends and I danced and sang until we completely lost our voices! It was a blast.
